Lady Gaga loves Versace. And she decided to declare it with her new album Artpop, whose title track is called “Donatella” and is almost a love letter to the Versace designer.
As you can imagine, Donatella is more than honored. “I would like to thank Gaga for her geniality, creativity, incredible talent, and super bitchiness,” she told JustJared.com. “I am honored to be her friend, and of course, I love the song!”
Their friendship began a couple of years back when Gaga wore a vintage Versace dress in her video “The Edge of Glory”. “She was determined, she already knew what she wanted: to go straight to the heart of the maison and show those clothes to a new generation, to all her fashion-lover fans,” Versace told WWD. She was talking about the brand’s signature bondage-inspired dresses designed by Gianni Versace. “I’m sure that if Gianni were still alive he would have been a huge fan of hers.”
Gaga understands why people are starting to compare her song to Jay-Z’s “Tom Ford,” but she said they are very different because he’s talking about the brand while she is singing about Donatella, the person. It’s also true that Jay-Z loves a good fashion name drop, in the past he rapped about Burberry, Maison Martin Margiela, Hermes and Manolo Blahnik.
