1-incertitudes-sound-activated-clothing-by-ying-gaoAfter attending university at the Haute École d’arts Appliqués in Geneva (Switzerland) and pursuing a Master’s Degree in Multimedia at L’Université du Québec, Montreal-based fashion designer Ying Gao has grown to focus her technically-charged efforts on merging clothing with technology. After the project (No)where and (Now)here Ying Gao created Incertitudes, which consists of sound activated white and silver colored fabrics covered in dressmaker pins, outwardly protruding from the textile’s facade. The clothing is made from PVDF, dressmaker pins and electronic devices.

“Individuals are pressured by time and technical innovation; they live in a divided present with an uncertain future. They exist in a transitory state, always on-the-go out of fear of ‘missing the boat’, and believing that they are never in the right place at the right time. A hypermodern individual is a being of the here-and-now, pressured by a logic of urgency, and worried about the future” Gao said.
