Some of today’s buzziest designers are expanding their reach to canine wear, outfitting Snoopy (and his little pup sister Belle) in chic styles to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip. More important, it’s been 30 years since an earlier cast of designers participated in “Snoopy in Fashion,” and, well, the majority of those 1984 looks feel just a touch dated.
Per WWD, the original group chosen to outfit Snoopy included Versace, Gucci, Thierry Mugler, Diane von Furstenberg, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Karl Lagerfeld. The brands going to work on the cartoon dog this go-round? Names like Dries Van Noten, Calvin Klein Collection, Isabel Marant, Rodarte, and Opening Ceremony. An exhibition called “Snoopy and Belle in Fashion,” which features vinyl beagle dolls wearing the designer looks, will launch Sept. 8 at the New Museum during New York Fashion Week.
