Your End-of-Summer Weekend Style Woes Solved by One of Fashion’s Most Influential Experts

Even though fall’s not all that far off, there are still summer weekends left to seize. Whether you’ve had a vacation on the calendar for a while or simply know you’ll be giving in to the lure of a day trip, packing and dressing for the part should not be stressful. To help, I connected with Roopal Patel, fashion consultant extraordinaire with a CV that includes stints at Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Moda Operandi, to find out her go-to packing lists for any occasion.

“Since I started my own company, I’m traveling every month for a week at a time. I have a routine to make things as easy as possible,” she told me. “I’m obsessed with using zip pouches to organize things in, like lingerie, jewelry, swimsuits, and all my tech gadgets. Then I use them as clutches to go out at night. I like to fold dresses and shirts in the dry cleaner’s packing. I think I fit more stuff in the bag that way.”

And the one thing her suitcase is never without, seasons be damned? “I always have a bikini, no matter the time of year. You never know when a hotel is going to have a great steam room you can slip into or a pool for a few laps.”
