Ballet Meets Couture: We Are About To See Something Truly Breathtaking

Is there anything more beautiful than ballet dancers, with these gorgeous cloud-like tutus floating around them? Now imagine that tutu was designed by Valentino. Because this is actually happening. When the art of dance meet the art of fashion, the result is bound to be breathtakingly gorgeous.

The New York City Ballet has announced their collaboration with the team of your favorite designers to create the the most beautiful dancing attire for the upcoming fall season. These list of the designers is rather impressive: Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen, Mary Katrantzou, Thom Browne, Carolina Herrera and Valentino Garavani. Moreover, each one of them was paired with a choreographer to work with: Liam Scarlett with Sarah Burton, Tiler Peck with Katrantzou, Troy Schumaker was paired with Browne, and Peter Martins with Carolina Herrera. And Valentino? He was assigned to create the costumes for a pre-existing piece from Christopher Wheeldon.

The costumes will make a debut at the NYCB’s opening gala on September 23rd, and we cannot wait to see what the creators came up with. Previously The The New York City Ballet had worked with with Rodarte in 2012, and commissioned Prabal Gurung, Iris van Herpen, and Olivier Theyskens in 2013. Yet this year’s collaboration is represented by the most high-profiled “dream team” NYCB has seen.
