I know, I know: Fall is almost here. Sorry for not doing cartwheels, but I’m in denial. I’m not ready to give up my shorts and fancy Tevas just yet. I finally got a tan!
But even a seasonal curmudgeon like myself can admit to feeling a tiny pang of excitement at the thought of “early fall” clothing. Why? Because “early fall” is “soon,” and “soon” pretty much means “now.” And there’s nothing I love more than stuff I can wear right now.
Here, six fall items I’m craving because 1.) they’re transitional enough to incorporate into my current wardrobe, and 2.) they don’t make me want to move somewhere closer to the equator.
Consider gauchos and culottes the new midiskirt. They were on almost every major runway. I’ll wear them with sandals or mules now, and then when it’s cold, with tights and boots. (But we’re not talking about that, right?).
2. A Kooky Clutch
The bright color of this one makes the fact that it’s fuzzy seem eccentric, not wintry.
3. Tassled Loafers
So cute with tailored shorts and a crisp button-down. And, in a perfect world, that crazy clutch above.
4. Surrealist Jewels
OK, a gold bracelet is technically seasonless, but surrealist accessories (ahem, Charlotte Olympia) are having a bit of a moment. Plus, this would look good with the friendship bracelets I refuse to take off.
5. A Split Pencil Skirt
Sexy but not scandalous.
6. A Slouchy Sweater
The AC in my office is cranking at all times, and this goes with literally everything. Note the effortless-looking high-low hem.
