Some Expert Tips on Rocking Your Own Signature Maternity Style

Kate Middleton, Zoe Saldana, Blake Lively, Coco Rocha—seriously is everyone pregnant right now? (Hey, we’re watching you, Amal Alamuddin.) With such chic moms-to-be out there, no wonder maternity style is so next-level these days. The category is about to get even hotter now that fashion designer Rebecca Minkoff—who just gave birth to her second, by the way—is bringing her expertise to mix with a holiday collaboration with Pea in a Pod launching on October 15.


Known for her frenzy-inducing handbags, incredibly cool shoes, and celeb-loved clothes, Rebecca describes her pregnancy style as “boho chic.”

“I opted for flowy dresses with moto jackets and flowing tops with jeans. Not too dissimilar from my typical uniform,” she tells us. (And lucky for mommies-to-be, similar billowy frocks are part of her collection.) But Rebecca also admires some fellow stylish moms’ unique sense of maternity style, citing Jessica Alba, Rachel Bilson, and Olivia Wilde her favorites. (We concur.) So clearly Rebecca would be the expert to ask for advice on how to stay chic—and, most importantly, true to your own style—when you’re pregnant. Here are Rebecca’s five tips, in her own words—and I think the last one will resonate with everyone.

My biggest maternity style tip is to remain true to yourself! When you’re pregnant, you’re going through so many changes, so it’s important to still feel that you have your own individual style still intact. At the beginning of my pregnancy with my daughter Bowie, I was wearing my own jeans, just a size up. Then when I popped, I wore a lot of body-con dresses and skirts mixed with a cool piece that still felt like me.

Don’t be afraid to embrace maternity jeans. I was very hesitant to buy a pair of maternity jeans. Instead, I just kept sizing up in regular jeans. Don’t make the same mistake that I did. Maternity jeans do wonders for your bump and your self-confidence- especially towards the end of your pregnancy.

Invest in a pair of comfortable shoes that are versatile. I tried to hold on to heels as long as I could, but after three months of pregnancy, I had to go the way of comfort. I found that wedges are stylish and comfortable. Opt for a versatile shoe like the Maggie bootie that can take your outfit from work to a dinner with ease.

Don’t neglect your skin. If your skin is glowing, you’ll look amazing no matter what you’re wearing. I love Clarins products. I use both their oil and stretch mark cream, I started using their products more frequently when I was first pregnant with Luca. The cream makes my skin so soft and really works!

Treat Yourself! With all of the planning for baby, it’s easy to forget to treat yourself, but everyone needs a little pampering every once in a while! Just be sure to go to a spa that you trust as not all spa treatments are safe during pregnancy, and remember to opt for all natural products!
