Kate Brien
View from the Topp

Age: 27
Residence: Venice, CA
How she earned her fashion stripes: This Parsons grad, former Vogue freelancer, and past assistant to stylist-to-the-stars Kate Young, is now a stylist in her own right and has generated quite the social following with her Instagram blog, so much so that last month she unveiled the latest iteration of her efforts: a new shoppable website.

Gifts she is most excited to give this holiday season: I love handmade gifts, and this year I’m making macrame weavings and smudge bundles for my best friends.

Her favorite last-minute gifts: A great bottle of wine, Mast Brothers Chocolate and Le Labo candles. (I live conveniently around the corner from Le Labo on Abbot Kinney Blvd.)

On her personal holiday wish list: Mazama Ceramics, Regime des Fleurs perfume and an Ann Dexter-Jones ID bracelet.

Regime des Fleurs Perfume, $165

Her gifting etiquette: My rule of thumb around the holidays is if invited somewhere, never show up empty-handed. I like to stock up on extra goodies like art books or stationery that I can easily grab if I need a last minute gift.

Lucy Atkin
Shop Super Street
Age: 26
Residence: Los Angeles, CA
How she earned her fashion stripes: Formerly the head buyer for Los Angeles cult boutique Satine, Lucy traveled the world viewing fashion collections, but felt like something was missing. She launched Shop Super Street this year as a way to combine her love of high/low dressing, carefully curating a selection of luxury fashion and accessories alongside streetwear brands. Bonus: If you live in L.A., you can opt for same-day delivery or pickup for those last minute purchases.

Gifts she’s giving this year: I think some funny stationary by Terrapin and hand-painted Christmas ornaments from San Miguel are great holiday gifts for anyone. The Moschino Barbie phone case is another fun gift for the Barbie girl in your world.

Set of 6 Terrapin Stationers LOLZ Notecards, $18

Set of 3 LUCIA Ornaments, $36

Moschino Hand Mirror iPhone 5 Case, $85

Her recommendations for last-minute gifts: Cheeky Baron Von Fancy lighters are always appreciated, and Huf socks are perfect last minute stocking stuffers.

Baron Von Fancy x The Cools Party Animal Lighter, $5

HUF Plantlife Crew Socks, $12

On her personal holiday wish list: I’m going to Oslo for New Years, so I have my eye on the Velocite shearling jacket from Acne Studios to keep me warm. I’m also asking Santa for the Petite Malle bag from Louis Vuitton.

Her gift giving advice: Gifting is all about being thoughtful. Presentation is key. That’s why I had a Parisian illustrator custom-design Shop Super Street wrapping paper that we wrap every purchase in. Opening the gift should be almost as much fun as what’s inside.

Elizabeth Jeffer

Age: 49
Residence: Chappaqua, NY
How she earned her fashion stripes: A maven of the fashion industry in San Francisco and New York, Elizabeth ran her own accessories showroom (with clients like Albertus Swanepoel and Tracy Watts) and discovered a passion for finding emerging designers. She channeled her love for minimalism and unisex products into creating Roztayger, a beautifully edited selection of hard-to-find classic and understated accessories made by artisans around the world.

What she looks for when shopping: Pieces that stand out quietly. Quality and timelessness are of paramount importance, clean lined with an edge or two. I search out items that won’t look dated when you pull them out of your closet a year or two from now.

Gifts she is most excited to give this holiday season: I love giving soft, cozy gifts this time of year, so I gravitate to cashmere. I just started carrying a line out of London called Oyuna. The “Ring Gloves” and matching scarves and hats are incredibly soft and in subtle shades, which suit all complexions. I especially love the element of humor in the Ring Gloves.

Oyuna Cashmere Ring Gloves, $116

Her favorite last-minute gifts: The best last-minute gifts are socks. Everyone likes socks and warm feet! For women, I like Hansel from Basel socks, and for men, I like a line called Etiquette.

Hansel from Basel Socks, $17

Her advice when shopping for gifts: Try always to buy what the recipient would like even if it’s something you don’t like. I have had to learn that the hard way.

Rose Apodaca
Age: 47
Residence: Silver Lake, CA
How she earned her fashion stripes: This pop culture style journalist, author, exhibition curator, and all-around Renaissance woman, banded together with her husband, Andy Griffith, a former film editor and self-described design fanatic, almost a decade ago to open a small design shop in Silver Lake. Since then, they’ve opened two more Los Angeles-based boutiques and an online marketplace filled with their globally sourced and personally-vetted accessories, home decor and various objet d’art.

The gifts she’s most excited to give this holiday season: Motorcycle boots on a wish list for a pre-teen in foster care, who is affiliated with the Children’s Action Network and a puppy to our 4-year-old daughter, Nina.

Her favorite last-minute gifts: Bits and Bobs colored glass boxes by Hay Denmark, W/W Carafe by Menu, Ghost Ship Kite by Haptic Lab (yes, for indoor or outdoor use!), A+R and Cast of Vices’ Security Tag Brooch, Clara von Zweigbergk’s graphic Playing Cards, Contour Key Rings, Menu’s Fire Hurricane Tea Light in polished Copper…I could keep going with picks from A+R!

Hay Denmark Bits and Bobs Glass Containers, $15

Menu & Norm.Architect Fire Hurricane Tea Light Lamp, $50

Menu & Benjamin Hubert W/W Carafe, $50

Hay & Clara von Zweigberg Playing Cards, $16

On her personal holiday wish list: The Multi Mini Tusk Choker by Gabriela Artigas, the Lucid Mirror by Adam Frank and the Tom Dixon Plum Cocktail Collection (swoon!).

Gabriela Artigas Multi Mini Tusk Choker, $740

Adam Frank Lucid Mirror, $880

Tom Dixon Plum Ice Bucket, $290

Her advice when receiving a gift: Be gracious and grateful. The next day do not forget to send a thank you card, handwritten with a thoughtful note regarding the gift giver, and then send it snail mail!
