London Fashion Week

The fashion circus is back in action again. And it has started its worldwide rounds in the United Kingdom with the London Collections: Men Fall Winter 2015 shows.

Day one began a bit on the quiet side with only a handful of shows. It kicked off with the Topman Design show. Our critic Nabil Aliffi said about the collection:   “Difficult times like this call for fashion brands to work harder for the customer’s dime. Safe to say the floor length teddy coats, kick flares and rebellious optimism will help ease the nervous energy surrounding LC:M while boding well for one of London’s most robust fashion exports.”

Aliffi also had the chance to chat with the winners of the inaugural menswear award of the prestigious International Woolmark Prize, which was announced today. The award went to the white hot designer duo of team of Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne, the masterminds behind the brand Public School.

Said Chow about the prize: “Aside from the international exposure and just being here in London, it has really given us a chance to think about our knitwear business. Regardless win or lose, you know, we have a launching pad now with all these techniques that we’ve developed”.

The MAN show saw the returning faces of Liam Hodges and Nicomede Talavera as well as newcomer Rory Parnell-Mooney. According to our critic John Michael O’Sullivan each of the designers reference their roots in their collection.

Says O’Sullivan in his review, “What’s next, if you were to believe today’s runway, wasn’t so much actual clothes as the idea of clothing itself…”

At Coach designer Stuart Vevers continues his top to bottom revamp of the American company with a menswear collection that got its starting point in the idea of individuality. Says Aliffi in his review of the collection, “Stuart Vevers focused his attention on sturdy outerwear built to weather the Polar Vortex”.
