Oscar Fashion 2015: Come See Who Made Our Best-Dressed List

It’s finally here: the Oscar red carpet! As expected, the dresses were phenomenal, and whittling this list down was tricky. Even so, I buckled down and, below, the ones you’ve got to see (and come see who wore a wedding dress!).

You know who was simple and kinda perfect? Dakota Johnson in pure red Saint Laurent with a sparkling embellishment on its single shoulder strap. She’s done a lot of black on her red carpets thus far (including this gorgeous Fifty Shades of Grey premiere pick) and I love the color. She’s wearing Forevermark jewelry, and her shoes and clutch are by Bally.

Jessica Chastain was striking in this navy gown that looked like it was tailored perfectly for her bod (and it was—it’s custom Givenchy by Riccardo Tisci). The sparkle at the chest added just the right touch too. Her necklace is by Piaget.

I’m a wee bit obsessed with white dresses because how, I mean, look how crisp and striking this Dior Haute Couture creation is on Marion Cotillard! Also, doesn’t it look a lot like what she wore to her first Oscar ceremony back in 2008? Her diamonds are Chopard.

More red from Rosamund Pike! I think this has got to be her best dress of the entire red carpet season, and it makes me totally, completely understand why the entire world goes gaga over an hourglass silhouette.

For me, this Versace is Jennifer Aniston’s simple style done perfectly. It’s neutral, shows off her figure, and isn’t not pushing any fashion boundaries. She’s wearing diamond art deco earrings and a ring by Fred Leighton; her shoes are Stuart Weitzman.

Holy pearls! Lupita Nyong’o just proved she’s really got the chops to become a serious fashion icon with this stunning all-white custom Calvin Klein Collection gown. It reportedly used 6,000 pearls! For shoes, she did Nicholas Kirkwood and jewels, Chopard.

I’m a sucker for a breathtaking silhouette, and it doesn’t get much better than Rita Ora in this black Marchesa gown.

Kerry Washington told Ryan Seacrest this Miu Miu dress was “comfortable, sleek, easy” and, gosh, it’s pretty. She’s a star whose style ranges all over the spectrum; for proof, please check out how different her dress from last night’s Independent Spirit Awards was. For jewels, she did sapphire and diamond earrings and a 1950s diamond ring, both by Fred Leighton.

Things I also love on a carpet? A serious statement necklace that adds a bold pop of color. I haven’t seen it done at the last few award shows, so my jaw dropped especially low when I saw Cate Blanchett in this beauty and Maison Margiela by John Galliano dress.

Reese Witherspoon has had some of her strongest style moments in simple silhouettes and colors and she did it again! I loved this basic black-and-white Tom Ford pick that was styled off the shoulder.

Can you imagine being able to say “Karl Lagerfeld made this for me”? Me neither! Julianne Moore stunned in heavily sequined custom Chanel. Her diamonds are Chopard.

It’s about time Jennifer Lopez had a princess moment! The Oscars is arguably the biggest red carpet ever, and I’m never mad at a sparkly ball gown. Hers is Elie Saab couture, and her clutch is from Salvatore Ferragamo.

Emma Stone went for sparkle too, rocking this yellowy Elie Saab gown.

I got the best kind of sparkle overload from Laura Dern in this custom gunmetal Alberta Ferretti. Her jewels are by Bulgari, including a turquoise ring that supports the American Lung Association’s initiative to raise awareness of lung cancer.

There was a supermodel spotting too! How elegant did Karolina Kurkova look in this pale strapless Marchesa gown?
