In the beginning of July, Women’s Wear Daily expected a change in Balenciaga’s creative leadership. On Tuesday, WWD reported that Balenciaga has decided not to renew current creative director Alexander Wang’s contract with the European fashion house. Therefore the next show at Paris Fashion Week is scheduled to be Alexander Wang’s last work for the Spanish label. All we know now is that Balenciaga is currently looking for Wang’s successor so we are all very curious to see who’s next. This is followed on from the news that Wang had already planned on leaving the brand to concentrate on his own label.
Just three years ago, Alexander Wang took over Nicholas Ghesquire’ place at Balenciaga but now he will part his ways with the brand, which Ghesquire did after 15 years. Similarly, many fashion houses have decided to mix around creative directors to freshen up their collections, these include Hedi Slimane for Saint Laurent Paris, Jonathan Anderson for Loewe, Raf Simons for Dior and Nicholas Ghesquire for Louis Vuitton. Wang is out so we are all curious to see who his successor will be.
