Mart Visser exhibits 25 years of couture and art in a temporary museum

Couturier Mart Visser presents his 50th Haute Couture collection in the autumn. For 25 years the fashion designer has dressed Dutch women. A nice occasion to open a temporary museum with a concept store in Amsterdam. With ‘Beyond Context’, Mart Visser shows the ultimate synergy between his three disciplines: Haute Couture, Prêt-à-porter and Artwork. The exhibition is available from 17 October to 19 November 2017.

In the center of Amsterdam, monumental canal houses are transformed into a temporary museum. Rough, bare spaces contrasted with stately style rooms. A new and ideal decor for the presentation of fashion and art. In addition, Mart Visser puts himself out of his own context and allows the visitor to make a walk through his creative brain. Light, motion, image and music provide an optimal experience.

Mart Visser debuted in 1992 with his first Haute Couture collection. For the exhibition, iconic pieces, hats and objects are exchanged from his archive with designs from the winter 2017-2018 couture collection. In addition, a selection of showcases and red carpet dresses from Bekend Nederland is presented.

The exhibition also shows an impressive overview of 8 years Artwork with paintings, sculptures and installations. Immense big faces beside heavily rusted objects reflect the development of Mart as an artist. Even studies and the first drawn heads from 1992, from his final exam at the Montaigne Fashion Academy, are shown.

Concept big

In the temporary museum comes the first concept store of Mart Visser with the most recent ready-to-wear collection. Especially for the exhibition, the couturier designed five ‘icon items’ which are available as a limited edition in the concep store only. A team of stylists is present for personal advice.
