Wrangler’s Blue & Yellow genderless capsule collection for Spring Summer 19 buckles up and switches into reverse gear for a nostalgic trip back to NASCAR’s Victory Lane.
Revisiting Wrangler’s historic stockcar sponsorship, the iconic denim brand takes the explosive spirit and competitive edge of the sport to create a dynamic new collection. Inspired by legendary racing driving Dale Earnhardt – who was sponsored by Wrangler in the Eighties – and his Jeans Machine race car, with its iconic blue and yellow paint scheme, the unisex collection takes elements of the retro sports aesthetic and dynamic detailing.
The original Jeans Machine slogan and authentic graphics from the era make a comeback on oversize tees, retro ringers and hoodies, while nostalgic mesh fabric is used for tanks and tees. Eighties-style track tops and shorts are given an evocative sports feel in the blue and yellow colourway. Logo sweats are bold and confident, calling up the swagger and glamour of competitive racing drivers.
Denim is given an athletic edge, with blue or yellow colourblock jeans and a race day jacket with contrasting yellow yoke panel. The Wrangler logo is repeated in yellow against blue denim, forming stripes that race across a shirt and jean. The denim collection is completed with classic loose-fit jeans and Wrangler’s iconic men’s western zipper style in a dark rinse.
Wrangler introduces overalls, inspired by the dynamism of the drivers and trackside engineers but delivering a bold and modern utility feel.
The blue and yellow colourway is forever stitched throughout Wrangler history. In 1981, Wrangler launched its racing roots and its blue-and-yellow cars were a familiar sight on the stockcar racing track throughout the decade. Dale Earnhardt, a young driver who would soon become one of the all-time greats, drove a Wrangler- sponsored Ford Thunderbird for the 1982 season, followed by his legendary No3 Chevrolet, known as the Jeans Machine.
“Blue and Yellow is a collection about progression, and pushing the boundaries on all levels – while drawing inspiration from the Wrangler archive”, says Wrangler’s creative director Sean Gormley. “Our customers are constructing their own identities more freely than ever. Through a thoughtful design process we have created a gender neutral collection that ignores social structures and irrelevant opinions. We deliver something less binary and therefore more in tune for today”.
