Joseph Altuzarra, Daniel Vosovic, and Young Designers Dish on Which Musicians Should Be Jay-Z to Their "Tom Ford"

On the heels of Jay-Z’s “Tom Ford”, which Nikki wrote about yesterday, it seems that being immortalized in song is the pinnacle for a working fashion designer today. So I took my chances at asking the likes of Joseph Altuzarra, Daniel Vosovic, Tim Weiland and Alan Eckstein of Timo Weiland, Bibhu Mohapatra, and Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters of Creatures of the Wind just which musician they would want—eh hem—to sing their praises:

But before we go ahead, a special shout-out to Joseph Altuzarra (above, with the beautiful Shu Pei in his design), who joins the ranks of Karl Lagerfeld and Yves Saint Laurent as the winner of the the U.S. regional round of the prestigious Woolmark Prize. And congratulations to all of these nominees listed below. Now back to the music:

Joseph Altuzarra: “Can I say Jay-Z? Because that’s sort of an amazing one….You know what I would actually love? I love [composer] Philip Glass, and I would love to have him name a piece after me. That would be sort of amazing.”

Daniel Vosovic: “Pharrell. One because then we could work in the studio together, and he’s just so hot. I’ll be his hype man, so I’ll just do this [fist pumps] in the background.”

Tim Weiland and Alan Eckstein of Timo Weiland: “Maybe to dress—dress AND name a song. David Bowie. Hedi Slimane [dressed Bowie.] It would be so good!”

Bibhu Mohapatra: “André Benjamin from OutKast! I know him because I helped him a little bit when he was doing his menswear line. He would always call me King Bibhu. He’s the nicest person, and he would rhyme things, so he would be the dude.”

Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters of Creatures of the Wind: ” I would be happy if there was a Throbbing Gristle song named after us. I would be very very flattered. I could die happy. That would be amazing.”
